I have re-ordered the same item over the years as the old ones wore out. However, the ones I received this time seem different from the previous ones. Looking through my purchase history I've bought them 7 times already and this time I ordered a batch of 3 (bought 10 in total). With the help of vernier calipers, my old ones measure the depth of 4.95 mm. These new ones are 4.67mm thick, which is 0.28mm thinner. It doesn't seem like much, but I noticed it right away, so I got my calipers out to check it out. It just doesn't feel as fleshy and firm. I want a quality mouse pad, not a flimsy one. I really don't care if it's $1 or $10. I just want a good one. Another thing that struck me right away is that they smell TERRIBLE. I don't recall my old ones being that harmful even when they were brand new. I'll throw them in the dishwasher to see if that helps. Another reviewer mentioned that leaving them out for a few days didn't help, so I'll skip that strategy. (Thanks for that information, fellow reviewer.)
