My 6 year old (DD3) always had trouble completing tasks. Any task. All tasks. I ask her to brush her teeth and 20 minutes later she has made a new drawing on the wall and the toothbrush and toothpaste are on the counter but have never been used. The same with homework. Same with dinner. The same goes for combing your hair. The same with cleaning. It's the same with fetching napkins or sharpening a pencil or all elements. God bless her extraordinarily creative soul with ADHD. Since urgency is usually the motivator for most people with ADHD, I've often found myself sitting in front of her door counting backwards out loud to keep her on task. While this serves the purpose, it's exhausting when the house is full of other kids doing this for every chore throughout the day. These timers were very helpful. I can give her a three minute timer when I ask her to brush her teeth and she can see how much time she has left without my scolding. It's not a panacea and the world is still full of distractions. But we've had her for about six months now. They are still effective and none of them have broken yet. What!
