Unfortunately there are some design flaws which make them unusable. I needed to go away for a week, and my outdoor potted plants needed to survive the dry summer heat while I was gone, so I bought a pack of these and emptied out a 2L bottle to test it out. First thing is that the devices don't actually seal to the bottle, not even close. So after attaching the spike, I flip the whole thing upside-down and all the water comes gushing out. By the time it stabilized, half the water had spilled everywhere. Second, even with the bottle now half empty, the weight of the bottle is enough to drive the spike all the way into the ground, so the valve is buried and inaccessible. Ended up having to take my plants indoors, and luckily they made it, although they aren't in the best shape.
