Used the vacuum for two weeks and noticed two issues that explain some reviewers' concerns.1. statics. The hose and the handle are made of plastic. When dirt gets through the hose, it generates static electricity and is dissipated through the handle. I live in the Midwest where the winters are dry so my hand "shakes" all the time. I found a solution: (1) put on a rubber glove; (2) Wrap 2 feet of copper wire around the hose and hose extension. The hose extension is metal to allow static electricity to dissipate instead of going through my arm. Bissell is not unique to this issue, so I've seen this issue with other vendors as well. Weak suction power. I've found that if debris gets caught on the hose boot (green part), the seal (packing piece) will break. In addition, the suction power stops when the vacuum cleaner is pulled back, since the seal is only pressed firmly against the hose sleeve when you push it. With the vacuum on, if you reach your hand towards the hose and pull the handle slightly (about 3mm distance) you will feel some air coming out. Once you push/push the handle down the seal is good. This is probably why many reviewers had to go through multiple passes since the vacuum is lost when you pull the car backwards. I offer two solutions, but neither will be perfect (this should of course have been decided by Bissell during the design phase). . (1) Put some extra padding on the cuff; (2) Put a strip of tape on the hose clamp ("release pin") to prevent the hose extension from moving and always being pressed against the seal. I hope this helps, but I wish this was more carefully crafted. I have another cheap vacuum cleaner (5 years old) that has a lot of suction power. I have three dogs so I use an old dog vacuum. But this one is more maneuverable and suitable for daily cleaning of another living space.
