Review on πŸ”§ Mityvac MV8500 Silverline Elite Automotive Test Kit: Ultimate Diagnostic Tool for Engine Performance, Brake Bleeding, Fluid Transfer, and More by Jonathan Suarez

Well worth the extra money compared to the standard model

Worth upgrading the plastic version! For purchase, this was 30 percent more than the consumer model. While the 20-year-old plastic Mityvac it replaces still works, the sensor lens has cracked and the plastic appears to be leaking brake fluid like a creature in a Stephen King novel. More akin to a tool than a toy phaser or nerf launcher, the weight, feel and strength are a joy to hold and use. The plastic version seems to get and stay very slippery, while this metal version doesn't seem as bulky. The transducer is armored, as you might find in Navy Seal-level diving, but we know that mechanics have higher equipment demands and lower budgets than the Seals. There are some useful accessories included, but the amazingly "inexpensive" master cylinder adapters should be used to make a spirograph, not to remove paint from brake fluid. The company's history leads me to believe that recovery kits will be available. longer than I'll be around to use it. Made in China? Well, isn't that all, including most, of what comes out of the tool trolley? Quality control and the company behind the name make it an easy task. I could afford a similar product if made in the US, but it probably won't offer the same long-term reliability and support as the Mityvac. The included die-cast case generally looks great gathering dust in your toolbox and "everything fits in there when it left the factory, but once it's unpacked, good luck it fits again" even after removal of plastic bags. The case contains ONLY what was included, there is no room for extra hoses, fittings from your old Mityvac or one of the extra large Trap bottles. The only complaint is that once the hose is attached to the pump, it's almost impossible to remove. , causing it to snowball, preventing the pump from fitting back into the cast housing. Is it easy to fix? Replace the straight barb with a 90 degree angle, barbed or unbarbed, right? Fantastic plan if you have access to 1/16" brass fittings (pitch still unknown) but for us normal folks.
