I should have taken photos of the process but I need to explain how we used two packs of these tiles. That's all. For Mother's Day I helped my 11 year old son find a fairly simple picture to make into a jigsaw puzzle and printed it out on a few sheets of paper to cover a 15 inch circle. Other items we needed: * 2 x 15 inches. Circular pieces of concrete tile substrate (available at any hardware store) * 1 x 15" circular piece of thin perspex * 1 x 12" flat top plant stand * 1 x 100-200 LED solar strings * 2 x Clear silicone gasket tubes for kitchen/bathroom use (I have one with a 10 year mold guarantee) - caulking guns, not flimsy little squishy tubes! Plant from below once done Plastic (doesn't need to be waterproof and what we used was similar to Elmer's Mortar) *enough mix for those Tiles you will be using for grout (think I used 1-2 pounds of dry powder mix with appropriate amount of water) * Rubber mortar trowel * Large mortar sponge * Sealant/guide Tile or grout sealer * Tile/glass tongs if you want to do finer detail - please note that if there is any detail in the picture at all, the finished product will most likely not look like the picture even if you w ollen Cut the tiles. See photos - all this was done for us to think about our project. * construction adhesive for gluing two round concrete pads together * several UV protected cable ties for attaching the charger to the table leg. * Disposable gloves. Here's what we did: 1) Painstakingly sort the colors of the jar into a compartmented box or a hundred zippered snack bags. 2) Print the chosen image on several sheets of paper (google it), glue them together and place them under the center of the frame. clear Plexiglas on a work surface that you can give your child for several days. Make a few marks with the marker so you can quickly line it up as it moves. 3) Start sticking the tiles onto the plexiglass to match the picture below, leaving space between each tile. Hours and hours and hours (or whatever attention bursts you get from kids for a few days). Try to keep the glue under the tiles, not between them. You'll see in the picture where I tested the mortar section to make sure it worked - ignore it. Note that if you run out of colors, you probably need to get creative with adjusting and replacing colors. So plan ahead based on the amount of a particular color you need for key parts of the image. Meanwhile, glue and pin the pieces of the back panel together to make a thicker piece. 5) After the mosaic is ready, glued to the plexiglass and dried, the adult work begins. Get a backing pad, garland, caulking gun, and silicone tubing. 6) This part is dirty, so you'll probably want to use disposable gloves! Spray the entire silicone gasket over the entire top of the back panel. 7) Unwrap the LED strings and stick them randomly into the wet silicone sealant. Make sure that enough wire is left at the end of the solar charger to attach it to the table leg you wish to attach it to. 8) While the silicone is still wet, place the plexiglass on the lanterns, tile side up. over all the lights. The seal will stick to the plexiglass as it dries to hold everything together. Make sure the edges of the plexiglass line up with the concrete slab underneath. Allow to cure according to the silicone instructions. 9) After hardening, gently turn over and place a plant stand upside down on top. Center the table on the underside of the back panel and screw the brackets to the table sections to hold everything together. Mount the LED lamp charger on the table leg so that it is exposed to the sun. 10) Turn everything upside down, mix the grout and use a grout trowel to spread the grout between and across the tile, as well as the sides to cover them with plexiglass and two layers of backing board. I added additional tile pieces around the outer edge using other much larger glass tile mosaic pieces I left over from another tiling project. I used grout instead of real grout because it dries harder and will hopefully hold the tiles together longer than exterior grout. This was pure speculation on my part, so if you're more comfortable with real grout - just don't use pre-mixed grout! Always use powder as pre-mixed material will become chalky and fall apart if left too wet for too long. Real mortar and grout hardens through chemical reactions and not just during the drying process of the pre-mixed product. 11) Leave the solution for a few minutes. Constantly rinsing the sponge with plenty of clean, cool water and gently rubbing across the surface of the mosaic tile to remove as much grout as possible. There will be a veil at the top, but you'll come back to that later when it gets even harder. 12) Let the grout harden and hit it again with a clean water sponge. You can be more aggressive and get it all as the grout is now hard enough to withstand more scratches as you remove residue from the tile. Mortar/Mortar14) Put the table in the sun to open the LED charger and enjoy it, especially at night! I would take it in winter as the freeze/thaw cycles will most likely loosen your tiles. Protect him and everything should be fine. Again, you can tell from the final product that it hardly looks like the original image, especially as we had to make some color changes due to missing tiles, but we got creative with it and I think it turned out pretty well Handicrafts 11- Summer Child. He too was happy with it. Hey raven! Correct the rotation of the image and please note how it is actually rotated when uploading! The rest of the internet did, so why can't you? Many Thanks.
