Rear Home Theater Speakers

I used this wiring for rear home theater speakers. I managed to make a pass because there are 4 wires in this wiring to connect two speakers. Most speaker wiring recommendations are for 14 gauge stranded wire, and they are much more flexible than using solid wire or even 12 gauge stranded wire. An added plus is that each wire is twisted the same way as a twisted pair phone cord, eliminating crosstalk noise. The only difficulty I had was cutting the jacket to separate the wiring from the speakers where I needed about 8 feet of clearance so I had to cut about 8 feet of the jacket. There is no easy way. I would recommend cutting the sheathing in one foot increments and shifting each increment to expose 4 wires until one is the length needed. I did not use this cable for wall speakers, used it as regular speaker cable. I couldn't run two cables with this wiring. I routed this wiring through the floor next to the existing phone jack into the basement and back through the cable receiver hole and then to the home theater receiver. Everything I've read about speaker wire boils down to this; Stranded wire carries more signal than solid core. This is because, at least in theory, current flows on the outside of the copper. The more strands, the less potential signal loss for the speakers as each strand carries current rather than a solid core. I hope this overview helps you decide how and which cable to use for your home theater rear speakers, as wiring these rear speakers can be tricky.
