When you remove the laptop from the stand the stand will lift up as it is spring loaded. However, the actual maximum height is determined by the grip you move to the right, which moves along the edge that goes up as you move to the right. But that's at least 2.5 inches less than when the laptop isn't on its stand. the actual maximum angle is then about 30 degrees. This puts the screen much farther away from me. If it could be more vertical, it would be a few inches higher and closer. At first I thought these were flimsy springs, but then I realized the springs aren't for support, they're for a knotted slider. It's way better than on the table so I think it might be worth the 3 stars. I'm sorry to upset you.
