Many computers are moving to USB-C. Some have a combination of USB-C and USB 3.0 and others only USB-C, and with good reason! When I buy technology, I think about what purpose it will serve now and how I can use the technology in the future. Future. We know SATA will be around for years to come, as Seagate and Western Digital will launch their 18TB and 20TB drives in early 2021, and potentially a 40TB drive by 2024. I don't know how long USB-C will last, but cameras and other devices are starting to use it. External hard drives are rare, but that's about to change. In fact, this dual-bay dock (requires a USB-C to 3.0 cable) can be used on computers with only USB ports or with the newer USB-C port. My new Mac and Lenovo Yoga have a USB-C port. Anyone who needs a docking station should consider this one. Plug and play ready. I put in a 14TB drive and it was recognized immediately. I'm using a Mac and the Mac recognized the dock and then the drive. I was able to format the drive. From unboxing to writing data to the 14TB drive I docked took 7 minutes. Love how the dock has the BIG WORDS "source" and "destination" engraved in white letters. This was my biggest concern before buying as my biggest fear is mis-seating the drives and next thing I know I have two perfectly clean hard drives! I don't feel like I'll have that bug with this dock. Data writing speed - everything seems to be going well. 270 GB for 2 hours approximate time frame? I started writing this review when I first started copying data to a new drive and so far 40GB of data has been written! The speed was stable. While the drive was copying the data, I was able to click on the copied PDF and it opened up in about 1/2 second! That's why I bought a USB-C based docking station! I've looked at other brands but this one seems to me to be the most reliable of all, with very good reviews to back it up. Quick and easy setup and direct USB-C connection - it doesn't get any better than this! Professionally packaged with a decent USB-C cable that's actually reinforced with strong connections on both ends. The device has a power supply and I connected it to the UPS. The pins are attached to the PSU so it was a little tricky to plug it in next to another PSU connected to the UPS. No deal breaker. end of this review. 60 GB of data recorded and now the status is "About an hour"!
