I bought this collar for my 7 lb short haired chihuahua and he has contained his barking quite well to the point where I just have to stretch the collar with it he sees it and stops barking. The mechanism should fit snugly against the dog's neck and will not stay in place unless the collar is too tight around the neck. It didn't seem secure to me, so I used the extra collar length to tie it to the jump ring on his vest, which keeps him in place pretty well. The sensitivity isn't very great, it only detects every few barks, not every one. If your dog is very small (less than 5 pounds) or has a long or thick coat, this collar probably won't work for you. .
