I wanted to record a VERY IMPORTANT conversation using a microphone so that it came across very clearly. I installed it on tape. Recorder after making sure the device is in record and playback mode. I carefully connected the microphone and made sure the record button was on. I leaned back in my chair to listen to the narrator and thought I was recording the narrator. done AND DEAD SILENCE. I lost a very important conversation that I can never recover. I didn't test the mic before I needed it in a live situation. Just thought you plug it in, turn it on and go. Found out the hard way - always test to make sure it works - before actually having to make a major note.
