The ink dries in the printer.

Maybe I'm mad at the ink, not the printer. The printer is drying out the ink. If you don't print for a few days, the ink will dry out and the cartridge will become unusable. You can take out the ink and store it in a cooler place until you need it, as the printer won't even let you scan if you haven't refilled the ink cartridges.
