This is the perfect size if you want to take a regular 2 wire power cord (z etc) out through a thin metal wall. The power cord fits snugly and not too tightly in the 1/4" jack hole. I used a Harbor Freight step drill to drill a 3/8" hole for the jack in the lamp's metal body - in case you want it haven't done yet. discovered step drill bits that allow you to SIMPLY drill clean holes in sheet metal with a hand drill/screwdriver. My step drill bit has small 1/16" steps which makes the job a lot easier despite being a 1/8". -Step drill might work well.
