Review on Xbox 360 4GB Console by Timothy Wall

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazingly versatile device

I rarely give 5 stars, especially Microsoft, but Xbox definitely wins. The setup went smoothly. All I had to do was enter my Hotmail username and password and wait about 20 minutes for the box to update the software. So far it has been absolutely worth the money. This box is actually a giant multimedia streaming device that just plays cool video games. As a Gold member, I have access to my Revain library, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and Internet Explorer. Not counting that it can stream my music and ripped DVD collection from my desktop. For cable subscribers with a $100 pay-per-view device, the cable type can connect your desktop to the Winows Media Center. This gives your computer the functionality of a DVR. Xbox communicates with your computer and streams your live TV and recorded programs in HD. Did you know that Microsoft developed the software that cable/satellite companies use for home DVRs? It's called XBMC (sounds familiar?) and it's already built into Xbox and Windows. With a second Xbox in a different room, you can use the same interface to access live TV and recorded programs from your desktop, depending on how many tuners your cable card device has. Total Home DVR typically costs $50-60 per month on top of your cable bill. Microsoft offers this as a free service. Of course, this requires a lot of bandwidth, so consider upgrading your router or internet speed if it's not very fast.
