My 9 year old son loves listening to the sound of sand in his hands. He asked for a kinetic sand play set for his birthday. I saw this and thought that he and his little sister would like to share the set with a few items - peacefully. I'll admit there were about 3 semi-peaceful days where they sat quietly, played with kinetic sand, talked like little people are supposed to, and took turns using the various tools this set offers. Then it started raining and at Kinetiksand it was a rule to only play outside. In any case, we broke the kit several times from the first days. My kids enjoy it and they were able to use the tools unaided. The plastic is durable and can create subtle effects with kinetic sand. My kids are 9 and 6 years old, they grew out of plasticine and kinetic sand seems like a good sensory substitute! I would recommend this set and also buy some sand as the sand that comes with it isn't much.
