Although the backlight looks good, it has nothing to do with cooling the laptop. If I wanted light, I would buy a Christmas tree. That being said, it would be nice if the default lighting scheme you chose used this setting when you turn on the laptop. I like the solid blue light that is the fourth setting. So every time I turn on the laptop, I have to press the small button on the back four times to get to the solid blue light. As for the fan, it works great. It's pretty and it keeps my laptop cool.
