Thanks to a review from another Rat Terrier owner I went a medium size for my 18 lb dog and I'm glad I did. The body was almost the right size but the neck was too tight so I made some simple adjustments using just the velcro that came with the jacket. I untied the side that was sewn on and moved it around. I then cut off the top 1/3 side of the velcro with the hook and did the same with the loop side, then reattached the loop in the new position. One side of the neck is fixed and the other is adjustable, but you can also make both sides adjustable. I bought 2 more colors of this jacket and did the same. Each took about 15 minutes of manual labor. It was worth it for me as I need a coat that will allow me to attach my dog's leash to his harness and the zip on the back is perfect for that. It's also a heavy, warm coat that insulates well. Dogs come in many sizes and this one just fit my dog.
