I'm glad I ignored the bad reviews on this product. I skimmed the instructions before starting to use it and got very different pH readings, although when tested in a calibration solution straight out of the box it showed a perfect 7.0. Then I went back and READ THE MANUAL more closely. It turns out that the key point is to gently shake the probe tip in the solution being measured. Now it works great and I no longer need cheap pH kits with drops and annoying color scheme - good relief. Minus one star for the fact that I now have to buy a bottle of $10-12 storage solution to hold a $40 counter (from Amazon stock) - the manufacturer gives you just enough of this solution to to make it easier for you to get started. This meter gives me a reading of my tap water (8.0 - 8.2) that agrees with a published analysis from my local water company, which is my basis for believing it to be fairly accurate.
