No assembly required. It's only two stories high. If you have a small cat, it can easily rest in the tower; However, full-size cats need to squeeze in. My cat lay around in it like a kitten. Now, as an adult, I put cat toys downstairs. It's fun to see my cat sometimes come in to see what she wants to play with and take it out. There is a paw print on the side. Nice way to decorate this item. A scratching post is built into the back so the cat can sharpen its claws there and not on your furniture. The product is durable and will last for years. (My last one lasted 2 decades before my portable air conditioner exploded and it soaked and rotted. Otherwise the product would still work.) Highly recommended for those who live in apartments as it is compact.
