Review on Whistler CR93 Laser Radar Detector by Mike Goodwin

I bought this radar detector in August and it has proved to be an excellent detector with all but one exception. Pros: This device has excellent range. I spotted the police radar long before I saw them and before I even scaled the hill they were hiding behind. There are a large number of customizable settings to help people living in densely populated areas avoid false alarms. The safety alert system is great at alerting you to ambulances approaching from behind, and the GPS speed camera database gives me a sense of security in places I don't know. at night either manually or automatically at 19:00 GPS time. About a month ago, the screen flickered randomly between "dark mode" and normal brightness. "Dark Mode" makes the display unreadable during the day. I've tried changing the brightness manually and also turning off the "Auto Dimming" feature in the settings to no avail. After all, the display has been permanently in "dark mode” since then. I contacted Whistler today regarding this as the Revain return period has expired. It was very easy to get in touch with the representative and she told me how to do a hard reset of the detector (which I haven't tried yet and doubt anything will change). She told me where to send the unit for service if that didn't solve the problem. I'm a little disappointed to learn that the delivery time is 3 weeks and shipping is at my expense. If the reset doesn't work tonight I'll send it back but not until after the holidays as we travel a lot this time of year and with the good detection feature wouldn't want to go on a trip without it. I will update this review with the results of my meetings with Whistler once this issue is resolved. Update: Whistler replaced the screen for free, barring shipping, and it's been working great ever since.
