They are good if you have a wide foot. Enough space for the normal swelling that occurs when hiking. The back encloses the heel without chafing. The only downside is that I had to add a thin cushioning insert as the cushioning isn't enough for really rocky terrain. If you're tackling smoother terrain or sandy trails, you won't need this. I will be looking at more Xero shoes in the future. Reliable shoes at a reasonable price. Update October 2020: Paste didn't work. It was thin but lifted my leg just enough to cause chafing. I've used them a few times and found that no washer was required. It just takes a bit of getting used to the feeling of zero fall barefoot.
