Slight design change required

After reading the reviews my expectations weren't very high but I was hopeful. This is KitchenAid. I thought some of the negative reviews were just picky people. This product requires careful use. Some metal parts bend easily. After carefully using it as people suggested, I was able to use it and wind it up. I love the fact that it was so automated. I liked the idea of cleaning and rotating everything at once. Advantages: Easy to clean, assemble and disassemble. Perfectly peels and twists apples in a spiral! If you pay close attention during use, this is one of the best options for wrapping. Cons: Some metal parts can bend easily. The walnut squash may "crumple" due to the spike holding one end. Therefore, the whole pumpkin cannot be completed. I think it has to do with the design of the spike and the performance of the machine. Knife parts can sometimes get in the way of the spiral parts. Difficulty positioning products. It is difficult to readjust without "kneading" the vegetables. One of the biggest disappointments I had was with walnut squash. Peeler had a hard time with the skin after just a few turns. As a result, the holding mandrel became a "core" at the other end. Of course, this meant that the retaining spike no longer held the pumpkin and I had to take it out, cut off the end and start over. Butternut squash is very difficult to peel, so I really wanted this to work. I used a very low speed and tried 4 different methods with no success. In the end I gave up and chopped up the squash to make rice in the food processor. I ended up returning this item because I was frustrated with the calculations I had to do to fit the food in the space allotted without cutting myself on the core holder. This type of spiralizer has less flexibility in product sizing compared to a manually operated model. I ended up buying the Paderna 3 leaf countertop version, not the folding version. The folding version was not stable enough. When it comes to stability, KitchenAid is unbeatable! Another note, the box it came in is great for storing the spiralizer. I just wish it was more like the foam cameras. It seemed like it might wear out over time. It would be great if it were more of a suitcase and not a box. But I think it might increase the cost.
