I bought this Portable Drive Enclosure based on its description as rugged and with a dedicated Type-A plug, USB 3.0 connector. + plug. The drive I bought for this case was a Silicon Power 512GB SSD SATA III 2.5 internal (tested 6/21/18). The suitcase was lighter than expected - good! Still a pretty stubborn feeling β Good Thing! Pigtailed USB connection cable with perfect length. I opened the suitcase; Screw extraction is what is expected for tiny screws; Make sure you have jewelry (Phillips) screwdrivers handy. The internal sealing isn't bad, but it's easy to work with. The angle required to insert the disc is a little tight, but careful slow sliding resulted in the disc locking very nicely. Now comes the one point that almost made me return the drive and case: once the SSD was in, I checked drive activity - both the case and the drive insurance worked. But I could NOT read the CD. So whether it was a case or a ride. I checked a number of articles but still haven't read anything. I contacted the drive manufacturer's representative in the US (made in China, sold in the US). They have been the most helpful and polite tech support. There was a slight language barrier which was a bit of a hassle, but the sincere desire to help and good-natured technicians quickly overcame the hurdle. Still, everyone was stuck in a dead end. Then I wanted to contact the manufacturer of ElecGear. for help. Now I've done what EVERYONE should do before contacting a manufacturer: Disconnect and re-insert the drive to ensure a good/correct connection. I found that due to the tight fit I "plugged" the SATA connector UNDER the socket connection! No wonder it didn't work. Nothing was connected. God I felt stupid. Only because. Well, as the old saying goes, "Operating Errors (OE) account for 95% of all 'errors' in engineering." I was outraged to find out what I'd added to those stats, but very glad that the external enclosure worked just as well as the SSD drive. !Once plugged in, the lid was easily restored and ready to use. Now I use this external drive as my travel work drive. It's so light and comfortable that it's really easy to use. I will buy 3 more rugged cases from ElecGear and put more SSDs in them. Great product at the best price.
