Runs on Ubuntu 19.04 with DisplayLink

I am very happy to have found this docking station for my laptop running Linux (Ubuntu 19.04 specifically) Disco Dingo . All USB pass-through functions work out of the box, but you must install DisplayLink for any monitors connected to the dock to work. Being able to store it under my laptop is perfect for me as it aligns the bottom of my laptop screen with the bottom of my second monitor. An added bonus is that it has also improved my laptop's cooling. I can't say for sure if it will work for 4k but I can definitely confirm that it supports 1440p and I assume it will indeed pass a 4k signal. Transferring files from my laptop's built-in SD card reader to an external hard drive was at the SD card's maximum speed (160MB/s), while reading from the external drive (USB-C SSD) was at 520-540MB. /s so the dock doesn't seem to be a bottleneck. A minor complaint is that all audio is captured when plugged in, even if no audio output device is connected to the dock (ie you can't use the laptop's speakers). I guess there's a workaround for this, but that hasn't been a problem for my workflow yet, so I didn't spend time investigating it, and it gave me an excuse to order new computer speakers, which will arrive in a few days. (Monday, September 9, 2019). I will then update if I run into any issues using external speakers connected to the dock. I very much doubt there will be any issues as it works great with headphones plugged into the docking station's 3.5mm jack. Something to note here: if you have a USB audio device with a headphone jack (such as the Yeticaster mic), it will take precedence over the 3.5mm jack. Pros Works with Ubuntu (with DisplayLink) Good installation instructions (including Ubuntu specific instructions) Supports laptop and improves cooling Fast data transfer Cons Captures all audio outputs

Pros
  • 1 DisplayPort supports a 2K monitor (up to 2560x1600x30fps)
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
