I'm running this straight off my truck battery. You must keep the engine running to get the best performance (14.7 VDC). I also upgraded my cables and clamps which are fine but if your power is close to MAX. be a little bigger. I went with what I had - a 10 gauge beach and no heat issues. It also allowed me to use longer wires for more flexibility. The maximum power I got was 650 watts with 800 watts wet and dry vacuuming. Everything else, like charging a laptop and other small things, this device can easily handle.
