First, lay the hair on the matte side of the paper. The fibers capture the chemicals and bind them to the hair. Instead of folding the paper over itself, I placed another paper on top of the paper I had applied the chemical to, with the matte side against my hair. As the bleach swells, it absorbs into the paper so there is no leakage. If I want to check the progress, I just lift the corner. No wrapping film "bags", no unrolling to check, no slipping, no dripping.
