This turned out to be a diamond in the rough for me. I put them on the ironing board first and while they held the lid (as intended) due to the way my ironing board folds I had to adjust them a bit. Later that week I found a much better use for them. We have a very nice mattress topper on our bed, but even though it has a wide, fully elasticated hem that conforms to the mattress like a fitted sheet, it keeps getting tangled under the sheets, making it feel lumpy when we sleep. I'm trying to sleep. So I removed those fasteners from the ironing board and simply cut the existing elastic in half (no need to double-fit and sew a new elastic through the metal clips). After cutting (with what I had on hand) I took the 1 inch wide elastic typical of pant waistbands and with the help of my husband stretched the elastic across the width of the mattress, then added about 4 inches for overlapping and sewing then cut three equal lengths. The fourth was stretched head-to-toe over the mattress (same method as side-by-side). Using lots of zigzag stitching, I sewed new rubber strips to the mattress. the existing elastic I left on the buttons. This all took about 10 minutes. MUCH, MUCH better holding power than the little corner nails you find at leaf shops. We slipped three of the shorter ones under the mattress with no problem and pinned them on either side (starting about 18" from the ends and centered the third one midway along the sides. The longer one was placed under the mattress and centered (head to toe ).It worked so well I'll want to do the same with the bed in the spare room if half the job is already done FOR you.Extremely easy project with excellent results even for those who have trouble with the sewing machine.It is tucked under the mattress where no one will ever see!Everything stays in place.LOVE IT!
