I use purified water to clean my betta tanks (I highly recommend this as it removes all the harmful chemicals, iron, mercury, feces etc that you find in tap water) and it keeps mine roosters healthy. As long as you keep up with cleansing or water transfusions, your betta should stay healthy. I always add some BettaSafe water conditioner or another water conditioner and a PH balance tablet to keep the water balanced. I can't tell if this conditioner works well or not based on all the other things I do with water, but my betta seems to calm down when applied due to the extra electrolytes. The effect of the BettaSafe water conditioner is that it didn't harm my Betta, which is a good thing. Have I noticed a significant improvement? No, but it's difficult to measure. If you don't have an air conditioner, you need to buy one. A Betta will not survive very long in regular tap water without some form of PH balance or water conditioner. Be a responsible pet owner, bettas are not ornaments or ornaments, they are your friends and they all have individual personalities so take care of them like you would a cat or dog.
