Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Dorman 600-910 Transfer Case Shift Motor: Ideal for Compatible Models by Alexander Scharon

An important tip for the correct alignment of the parts!

Installed on my 2005 Chevrolet Avalance Z71. Installed 2 months ago and no problems since. I suspected this part needed replacing after reading several Avalanche forums about failing 2WD/4WD systems. Already replaced the Dashboard Selector. Then in late fall I noticed that none of the 2WD/4WD options would go up at all - not even 2WD and couldn't get the truck to shift to 4 HI or 4 Low. Installs quite easily, with one caveat you should be prepared for: this item is shipped in a neutral condition. My truck was 2WD so the new part didn't fit in the transfer case when it came time to install it. If you have followed the instructions in the service manual up to this point, your battery is disabled. Slide the new part into the strap, then place something underneath to support its weight so it doesn't hang loose. Then reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition and select the gear your truck is currently in (2WD in my case). You should hear a click or something similar from the part. Go back under your truck and once you've selected the correct gear it should be snug against the transfer case with no effort. The male portion of the transfer case has enough play to align if necessary. IF YOU USE A HAMMER OR HAMMER YOU DO IT WRONG! Also read some reviews that said there was no need to remove the front driveshaft. Maybe not, but life is a lot easier when you do. Just remember to mark the alignment in front of the driveshaft for reinstallation. That was the part that made me the most nervous, but it turns out it didn't really matter. One more thing - Revain recommended AC Delco gasket #12384990 for this part. It's nowhere near right. You'll see the gasket when you remove the old part - it's a solid piece of hardened plastic. My truck is 11 years old and the original gasket could still be used. I just blasted it with brake cleaner and gave it a good wipe.
