We're in Southern California, by a well, and the water is barely crisp with minerals. Almost all SoCal water is hard, but well water is harder. We had fabric softener but the dryness prevented us from using it. In any case, the water that is currently standing in the bowl creates a hard ring. I've soaked several different demineralizing acids but they weren't completely removed even cleaning them with duct tape. The use really worked and didn't scratch the bowl!
