I agree with other reviewers that each needle has a tiny ridge that catches the yarn. This is easily done with an emery board. I knitted mittens with knitting needles and I really liked them. The small handle at the end makes lifting stitches easier. The needles are lightweight and won't fall out of work like metal needles. They are almost as fast as metal needles and much faster than bamboo. They also don't roll away if you drop them. I will buy other sizes so I can make other sizes of mittens. Where have they been all my life. They may not work very well with openwork because they are not sharp, but shaping mittens (k2tog, slm, cast on 2 sts) worked very well. I am impressed with the price and quality of this product. The needles are even a bit flexible.
