I've been looking at this article for a long time, then projects have crashed - where I really needed it, and it works great. This extension is strong enough to be used with my heavy tripod, ball head, camera and lens and use a counterweight. The other two adjustable camera mounts can be removed or attached to the other end to be used as a counterweight. This does not apply to lightweight tripods or lightweight tripods. The end brackets have 3 set screws, one of which came out, so I put a small piece of tape on each screw to hold them in place when not in use. I only bought it for photographing light bed negatives - both a large object on the floor and a longer outstretched arm. My camera has an L mount and I use a rail to attach it to the mount which makes it easy to adjust the low height of the camera. This way I don't adjust the 3 legs of the tripod or the main center tube that carries all the weight. 2 adjustable camera mounts will come in handy in the future.
