I should have guessed that "cheap" = "not good". I bought this drive hoping to save about $75 on a similarly sized Samsung drive and finally got it back within a week. The write speed was so slow it would take days to copy my 500GB movie collection. The writing speed reached 3 MB / s, and this with a direct USB connection. The Samsung I bought as a replacement gets 30MB/s. Yes, it's 2.5 times more expensive, but I take it for 10 times the write performance!
