I have a metric! I'm tired of feet and fractions of an inch when doing DIY projects. To help me with this, I originally bought a metric tape at the bottom and an inch tape at the top, but this was problematic when I wanted to take a metric measurement along the top edge of the tape. This tape measure has since become my favorite piece of equipment because even though my projects are metric, I still have to buy in imperial units. This is a solid item (490g), cumbersome for a normal bag but also difficult to lose. The tape will stretch to the advertised 8m and after that a big STOP warning will be given so there are plenty of warnings before the mechanism fails. From the fully extended length, the mechanism pulls out all but the last 1.5m of strap, but a gentle push brings the mechanism back into action and pulls out the rest of the strap. Checking the markings with calipers, as far as I can tell the millimeter and centimeter markings are there. On this tape, each centimeter is numbered from 1 (which, along with 2, is concealed by a hook tongue) through 800. Every ten centimeters are marked with large red numbers up to the 800 mark. The counters are no different. In general, I am satisfied with the purchase and I highly recommend it! Join me, join the rest of the world, switch to metrics!
