I bought these for kayaking and to be able to walk over rocks and uneven surfaces and they definitely fit. They are very comfortable and very light. They pull more like a water bag on the foot, which can be a bit chunky on the narrow side. Bands serve no particular purpose unless you need to tighten the shoe around your foot. I don't know how to avoid this without wearing socks, but sand and dirt can still get into the shoes. I washed them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and let them air dry and they turned out great. The width is good but the length is a bit shorter so if you are between a size 7.5 and 8 I would definitely go for a size 8.
