Just received my 2ft QualGear extension to replace the 1ft Omnimount extension. I was expecting it to be a simple switch. This is not the case: the QualGear extension tube I received is described as "NPT Compliant" but does not meet NPT standards as it has no taper. The NPT standard prescribes a conicity of the threaded part from 1 to 16 (narrower outer part, wider inner part). The diameter and pitch are the same, so you can start threading the extension tube into the NPT coupler, but it will lock up after too few turns because the inner diameter of the female NPT coupler decreases as the male end goes deeper. Result: The extension doesn't fit properly (the corner is loose because it's a straight piece that's wedged into the cone, so it has some angular play) and can't be locked in place with the coupler's set screw (because it's not goes deep enough). A shame as the tube appears to be of good quality, with a handy lid over the old fashioned (for large plugs) oversized opening common to most of these tubes. I'd love to use it but it can't be used with the two NPT couplings on my Omnimount so I have to return it.
