I received a water still from a family member, after the mention I looked at different models. When first used, the freshly distilled water had a slight aftertaste. I cleaned everything again (more thoroughly this time as I was in a bit of a hurry with the initial cleaning) and it improved the situation by 90%, but it still wasn't the equivalent of a store-bought distillate. There was just a hint of aftertaste. I chose this filter and it completely solved the problem. There is no smell and no aftertaste. These are great filters. I just wish they were a little cheaper!
