Review on Prevue Chinchilla 495 Earthtone Dusted by Omar Bokil

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Definitely worth it

I have several types of cages for different species of animals. This one was for three rats. I bought this after purchasing a previous cage that was marketed with a 0.6 inch bar spacing but it turned out to be closer to 0.75. This would be "okay" for adult rats, but children could walk through it. I have purchased Prevue Hendrix cages in the past and have been pleased with their quality. The rods on mine were in perfect condition. With other cages I've bought I've had to bend some of the bars in place. It's okay, but there was no such problem with this cell. It took two people about 15 minutes to assemble (but could have been longer if we hadn't already assembled so many other cells). Pros: good quality. All metals are lead-free non-toxic plated. I researched every cage company in North America when purchasing cages for my parrots. I trust this company and these materials are my African Gray so I feel comfortable using them on rats as well. Phenomenal size and impressive weight for its size. Of course, the width of the bars themselves is thinner than the larger bird cages I own so I was expecting them to be lighter, but I was still pleasantly surprised at how easily they roll even on carpet. Continuous. I give it 4 out of 5 stars for durability. In addition to large parrot cages, I also have parrot cages and travel cages. Compared to cages of this class, this one is much stronger than small plastic-coated bird cages. Many cages of roughly the same size are held together much like the walls of a dog cage. This is a much more robust design. Cons: The only complaint about the cage floor design. The plastic shell is thin. The product information states that the stand can be left out and used with just a tray and some bedding. I do not believe it. And with this configuration, when you slide the plastic tray into the top track (where the grill goes), there is a gap around the entire perimeter due to the rounded edges of the tray. Which brought me back to a cage that babies could get out of. While these two issues have been overlooked, the tablet is just VERY flat. I would end up with linens everywhere. My final solution is to place a liter bowl in the cage on the grate. The problem is you can't put a tray in this cage. You need to pull the grate out almost all the way, place a tray under the cage, grab the cage to pull it into the cage, and then put the grate back in place. I sincerely wish that more cell manufacturers would do more research and development. at the bottom of these cells. The vision cage I want them in encloses the bottom 6 inches in plastic to provide bedding on the floor and prevent it from being discarded.
