Open packaging, product does not work. I thought the battery was dead so I put a spare battery in. Nothing yet. There really was something. The sensor backlight was not working, but I could see every character on the display blinking (no backlight). I suspected it came with two dead batteries, so I bought new batteries for it. I put in a new battery and opened the probe. The display backlight is on and appears to be working. I started cooking and after about 20 minutes I checked the temperature of the meat with a thermometer and encountered the same problem as before. The display backlight didn't work and I could faintly see each character on the display blinking (I had to hold it at the right angle to see it). It's definitely not the battery. If not corrected, is the thermometer clearly defective?
