Noise Problem in Multimeters and Analyzers

I bought a B&K 5492B Benchtop Meter for general troubleshooting and repair purposes from where I work. I've always wanted a good, fast benchtop meter with advanced impedance measurements. After reviewing the features of this gauge and the price, I found it to be a great fit for what I do. A week later I had to send it back - it has (in my opinion) increased inherent noise. That means: If you are measuring DC voltage, the meter ranges from 1 mV to an astounding -12 V DC with unloaded test leads. (or just disconnect the cables from the meter). The measurement is fast and accurate, however. If you troubleshoot the circuit while the meter has no load, the pinball readings will be pretty bad. Not acceptable for debugging. I am sure that as a benchtop meter for continuous measurements this would be a good meter. Banana plugs didn't like certain pins, they were exceptionally tight, so tight I had trouble twisting and pulling them out smoothly. The USB GUI application works well and is a good feature for remote monitoring. A small improvement on the part of the manufacturer and that could be a great counter for the price.
