Review on Microsoft Surface Pen Platinum Model 1776 (EYU-00009) by Michael Wehrman

Added value for Surface

This review relates to a Platinum Surface Pen used with a 2017 Surface model. The official Surface Pen worked great. It fits comfortably in my hand, feels natural on the touchscreen, writes without lag, repels the palm flawlessly, and adheres securely to the magnetized side of the device. My only issue with the hardware was that it wouldn't automatically pair with my Surface as the instructions that came with it said. While I'm far from an expert, I'm tech savvy and was able to manually wire it up in seconds. I suspect my experience was atypical, which is why I didn't deduct a star. Although I primarily use my Surface as a Type Cover laptop, adding this Surface Pen definitely improves its functionality. When precise mouse control is required, e.g. For example, when I'm editing photos or using OneNote's drawing tools to map a garden, I can be more precise with pen mouse buttons than with a trackpad or regular mouse. With a programmable erase button, I can open a OneNote page with one click to jot something down quickly without having to find a pen and paper, even when I'm doing something else on my computer. I'm not an artist, but I've tinkered with drawing apps that support drawing directly on the screen and regular programs that can be used with a graphics tablet and stylus. In my layman's opinion, the Surface Pen will be an invaluable tool for any true digital artist. Finally, a tip for the budget conscious: Platinum Pen, the most affordable color option, matches the Surface's metal body. It won't match your Type Cover, but it won't conflict with it either. So if you don't want to make a fashion statement, opt for the Platinum model and save a few bucks.
