What I like best about these Peak ice cream trays is the metal rim that stabilizes the tray so it doesn't splatter when placed in the freezer. As another viewer noted, the rim is slightly raised to avoid overflow spills. (Since water expands as it freezes, I try not to fill the "cubes" all the way to the top.) The sturdy rim also means you don't remove ice by turning the entire tray back and forth to remove ice cubes . Instead, you simply press down on the flexible base of each dice to pop out one dice at a time, allowing only as many dice to be dispensed as you need and they release very easily. Another plus is that they are made of high quality food grade material. Silicone and come with a silicone lid which is handy for stacking full bowls in the freezer. The lid doesn't grip or seal the tray, it just sits on top and the lid isn't as rigid as the rim of the tray. However, I find it very helpful. I also love that both the bowls and lids are dishwasher safe, which makes them really easy to clean, especially if you're freezing something other than plain water in them. I washed them in top shelf dishwater when they arrived. (I haven't experienced this myself, but I've heard other people say that non-metal ice cube trays can end up trapping freezer odors, which I think might be another reason to be happy that they're dishwasher safe .car.) Afterwards Since I was so pleased with my first purchase, I ordered all the sizes that Peak makes and duplicates of the sizes we use most. I usually keep less than six trays in the freezer and keep the rest in the cupboard to use when we have company and need more specialty ice cream. If you intend to use them for baking, I recommend checking with the manufacturer first. I don't recall any mention of a temperature as to how warm it gets; Also, I would be concerned about a closed metal rim for oven use.
