This rug is a good size. As you can see from my photo it is wide enough for my cat to sit on and there is extra space around it. Seems great for scratches. It has a really rough texture. It also has small handles on the bottom to keep it in place. However, I can't comment on how well it works because... my cats don't seem to use it. I'm frankly disappointed. They love scratching cardboard so I figured they would love it. Maybe that's because he's on the floor. I personally thought they would scratch more easily, but the box allows them to lean. I see it as a factor. Or maybe I just have picky cats. We all know what cats are. They like what they like and don't care about anything else. Anyway if you have a cat that likes this item i think its good quality and worth the price. I could see that giving the cat something nice to scratch that isn't your furniture works well.
