Review on πŸ“Ό Panasonic DMR-EZ17K DVD Recorder with ATSC Tuner Black: High-quality recording and playback in one device by Hesham Peltier

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good but could be better

I chose this recorder because of the good reviews it had for its tuner. I have a 42 inch plasma EDTV monitor and needed a good picture when watching a game. It has pretty decent functionality, the digital channel scan is a bit slow, some channels are pretty quick while others take 4 or 5 seconds to tune in. The picture looks good and the HD feeds look particularly good. CONS: Slow setup on some channels Aspect ratio mismatch, I have to manually adjust WIDE, NORMAL, FULL settings to get digital channels to look right (could be my monitor) Channel editing menu is terrible, cordless autotune captures about 80 digital channels, of which only 5 or 6 work, this forces you to manually delete unnecessary channels while the channels are not visible, and this is a tedious process that takes a lot of time. Finally, when changing channels there is sometimes a "lag" as you go through the digital channels, it "hangs" and tries to catch up, which means if you tune into a digital channel and quickly press up or down , it takes a few seconds for the chicken to jump wildly to catch up. Also, sometimes some digital channels need to be switched back and forth to make them work.

Pros
  • DVD recorder
Cons
  • not reliable
