Unfortunately, the D-ring on both ends of the 18" version has beveled rather than flat ends. help to glue it to the shingles, but the design of the bracket going around the D-ring lifts the bracket off the mounting surface which has a strip on it (see pictures). The brackets came with nails, but I bought screws from a hardware store to use instead. Based on another guy's review of the 9" mount, I thought the 18" mount would have a flat bottom that lays flush, but that's not the case. Should still work fine, but I'm disappointed with the design.
