You have to press hard to roll out the dough. I've read reviews and even attempted to build a wooden tortilla press. The dough will be flat, but not enough. You would lean on the handle and something would always break. This tortilla press delivers tremendous pressure with a light squeeze on the handle. DO NOT add your weight. You built solid. 10 inches is also larger than most flatbreads. Flatten the dough, compress it and be sure to use wax paper or something similar. The only change I would recommend is replacing one screw with a 1/4" class 8 (2") screw. This tightens the tolerance a bit and can help you get down to the last nanometer of finesse.
