I replaced the state-approved spouts on my gas canisters with working spouts, so I had to install vent caps as well. I use a spout which I rotate through the jars as needed, but of course each jar needs its own vent cap. You have done a great job. Install them properly and they probably won't leak. You can always apply some silicone to be sure. They break eventually, always a small tether so I like to keep spares handy as if it breaks the cap will always be lost and never found again. I usually have a lot of things in stock around the house. It is more convenient to have spare parts on hand than to run to the store or order and service them. You have an extra line for your garden trimmer, don't you? I even keep extras for my electric water heater. These things always seem to fail when it's thirty degrees outside and I really don't want to run to the store in the cold. It is enough that you have to change one in the cold. So, even if you don't need them now, they will. Get them before you need them. If you only need one, get a kit so you have spares.
