Review on ICON 01857 RV Skylight SL2222-22&#34 by Darrell Shreves

Pretty good for the price

I bought this product knowing it would not fit but I needed to make it work. The product itself is good. I used this skylight to replace an old emergency exit hatch on a bus I'm renovating. I removed the old sunroof (the plastic became brittle with time and wear and it leaked). The hole measured 23 11/16 inches. Perfect square basically. I've looked literally everywhere, but since I live on a rural Alaskan island, the options were slim unless I wanted to pay around $500 for a custom skylight, which just isn't an option. I turned to the internet and, to my dismay, came to the same conclusions. I bought this skylight knowing it wasn't quite right but figured the flange would be big enough to cover the hole. I was right. Type. I cleaned the metal around the hole with a sander, treated the rust with Ospho, painted it with old paint on the base, covered it with a primer and a "snow roof" top coat. I then sealed the hole with Vycor tape and some Henry's Roof Sealant. I placed the skylight on top, it obviously didn't fit, but the holes pre-drilled in the skylight may have leaked as they didn't line up with the outside edge (something I should have considered, but obviously didn't! ) . I drilled my own holes in the plastic lantern and attached it with screws. I applied another thin coat of Henry Roofing Sealant and when dry covered with another coat or Vicor over the flange. I filled the open holes with resin + hardener commonly used for fiberglass repair. It was INCREDIBLY exhausting, but so far I'm happy with the results. The real test comes when I take it outside. I live in the rainforest so we'll see if it stands the test of time.

Cons
