This unit is easier to use than the plastic 1 I got years ago. The only problem is that it's also sharper on the sides because the metal is thin. I recommend leaving the box for storage. My old plastic box is kept in one of the kitchen drawers because it doesn't have sharp edges like this one. Top handle opens/closes. There are 2 small protrusions that fit into holes on the device. They are sometimes a bit difficult to squeeze, so be careful not to pinch the skin on your fingers. It's easy to use. Using a large sharp knife (not included), cut off the top of the pineapple, flatten the core of the pineapple, push down and twist clockwise. Then pull out like a plunger. There's some suction so I have to wiggle a bit to get it out. Once it comes out there will be a stack of pineapple spirals. Remove the handle and tilt the tool to remove the pineapple slices. The metal is thin and the welds seem poorly made, but the device works well. I found that I had to clean the spots around the welds really carefully because things wanted to get stuck in those spots. The $7 price isn't bad for the quality (or lack thereof) which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 3. A section cutter is included, but it's cheap plastic and quite bulky. He can barely cut 2 pineapple rings at once. To be honest this cheap plastic cutter should have just been ruled out. I have metal ones that I use for apples, they are much better and can cut more than 1-2 slices of pineapple at a time.
