Drive failed without warning

This drive has been working almost flawlessly since it was purchased in 2015. Today, May 8th, 2020, the situation has changed. I used to be using my computer to browse Chrome when Windows crashed with a blue screen of "CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED". After rebooting, I was greeted with a horrible boot error "NTLDR is missing". The next step was to download the Windows 10 ISO so I could try to fix it. The recovery program saw the drive and said it had 0 bytes of capacity. After that I tried to read the disk with an external enclosure. When using this method, the hard drive was not recognized on several computers. This series of events led me to conclude that the hard drive had died. No SMART alerts were received. A week ago I checked the Sandisk SSD dashboard and found the drive to be in good health. Because of this error, I lost important data related to my college courses, data that didn't exist long enough for the backup window to run. This event has been a huge disappointment throughout the day and now I have to try to find a way to recover the data or start over without my files. For this reason, I cannot currently recommend this disc for long-term use. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is that while it ran it was a well run drive.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
